# Google AI Mode — the record

Google's conversational search mode: full AI answers with citations, ads, and app integrations, running alongside classic results.

The most heavily instrumented surface on the record, and the least used. Datos and SparkToro put AI Mode at 0.13% of U.S. search-related visits in Q2 2026 and describe U.S. usage as plateaued or dipped, while Similarweb counted visits rising from 126 million in June 2025 to 279 million in May 2026. What the studies find inside it is more specific. Google is the second most-cited domain in AI Mode answers, on its own Business Profile and Product Knowledge Panel cards. Pillarbase's analysis of 15.7 million citations found repeat-cited passages average 117 words, answer in the first sentence about 80% of the time, and come 76% of the time from pages already ranking first organically. Writesonic measured AI Mode omitting the source brand in 49% of citations. Ads appear on roughly one in three commercial queries.
