Some Google AI Overview citation cards are now showing text Google's AI generated to summarize the linked page, rather than text drawn directly from the page, per SEO consultant Brodie Clark, who spotted the change and posted screenshots on X. Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz said he sees the behavior on some but not all of his own test queries; Google has not announced the change.

Why it matters: If the citation card's description is AI-generated rather than quoted from the page, publishers lose a degree of control over how their content is represented to a searcher who hasn't clicked through yet.

## What this answers

**Does Google AI Overviews show the page's own text or AI-written text in citation cards?**

Some AI Overview citation cards now show text Google's AI generated to summarize the linked page, rather than text pulled directly from the page, per a change spotted by SEO consultant Brodie Clark and confirmed by Search Engine Roundtable on some test queries.
