LLMEO — large language model engine optimization
LLMEO — large language model engine optimization — is the same discipline as AEO and GEO under yet another name: making content that LLM-based systems retrieve, trust, and cite. It is the least standardized of the acronyms and is often folded into the other two.
The proliferation of names is itself a fact about the field: the practice is young enough that no term has won, and vendors, researchers, and practitioners each coin their own. LLMEO's emphasis falls on the model — the LLM as the thing being optimized for — where AEO emphasizes the product surface and GEO the generative architecture.
The wire's editorial position is to cover the category under all its names and let the market pick the word. The lanes here carry all four acronyms for exactly that reason.
