Google pauses AI-generated recipe images in AI Overviews
Google has stopped generating AI images inside AI Overviews for recipe results, Robby Stein, the company’s vice president of product, told Search Engine Land, calling it “a small experiment we’re no longer running.” Stein said the feature was distinct from Nano Banana, the image tool Google announced in July that generates images only when a user explicitly requests one.
Why it matters: Google reversed a two-day-old AI Overviews feature almost as soon as it was spotted live, a reminder that what the wire logs as shipped can be pulled before it settles.
