Business sites dominate Gemini's local AI citations
A Steady Demand analysis of 14,472 AI citations across 1,487 local search queries in the 50 largest U.S. metros found business websites accounted for nearly 60% of citations in Gemini’s local results, with Reddit second at 13.7%, per Search Engine Land. Identical Gemini queries returned overlapping sources only about 40% of the time and named the same top business in just 7% of repeat searches, versus roughly 90% listing consistency in Google’s local pack. Gemini and ChatGPT, tested on the same queries, cited the same domains only 8% of the time.
Why it matters: It's a rare head-to-head measurement of AI local-search citation stability, and the near-total churn in Gemini's top recommendation undercuts any single-snapshot local visibility claim.
