- Yes — Google is testing a narrower citations panel in AI Overviews that could make source links less prominent, per Search Engine Roundtable; Google hasn't confirmed the change.
Google is testing a narrower citations panel for AI Overviews, per Search Engine Roundtable — the redesign was first spotted by Khushal Bherwani on X and independently replicated by SER. Google has not confirmed the test or said whether it will roll out broadly.
Why it matters: A narrower citations panel would shrink one of the few visible click paths off an AI Overview, right as the panel's visibility already governs whether a citation gets clicked at all.
