Google syncs AI content guide with quality rater guidelines
Google updated its guide on using generative AI content, adding information drawn from the Search Quality Raters Guidelines, per an October 1 entry on the Search Central changelog. Google says the change keeps the public documentation in sync with material it presents at its own developer events. The changelog entry doesn’t say which specific lines moved — but the live guide now cites Quality Raters Guidelines sections 4.6.5 and 4.6.6, telling publishers that AI content is allowed if it adds value and passes human fact-checking, while using it to mass-produce low-effort pages can trigger the scaled content abuse policy.
Why it matters: Google's own public content policy now explicitly leans on the rubric it trains human quality raters to use, which signals tighter alignment between how raters judge AI content and what the written rules say is allowed.
