Google launches UGC Fresh Data Program for forums and social platforms
Google added documentation (spotted via a changelog diff on Oct. 8, date approximate) for a new UGC Fresh Data Program: a dedicated, authenticated pipeline separate from normal crawling and the Indexing API that lets qualifying forum and social platforms submit fresh user-generated content directly to Google.
Per Google’s own page, eligible platforms must host high volumes of UGC on stable public pages, use OAuth 2.0 authentication and schema.org markup such as SocialMediaPosting or DiscussionForumPosting, moderate content actively, and keep profiles public. Applications go through a Google form, with a stated 6-8 week response time and no guaranteed acceptance. Google says participation speeds up how fast fresh content is processed in Search but “doesn’t guarantee that content will appear.”
Why it matters: A direct, authenticated feed for forum and social platforms would let Google refresh UGC in Search faster than crawling allows, which matters because this wire's coverage has repeatedly shown UGC citation share swinging with crawl access and robots.txt changes.
