SPUR Coalition adds NYT, AFP, Economist and Atlantic

SPUR, the publisher coalition behind the Content Telemetry standard the wire covered at its October 2 release, added more than 40 new members, per its own announcement — including The New York Times, Agence France-Presse, The Atlantic, The Observer and The Economist, plus Latin American newspaper associations ANJ (Brazil), Alianza de Medios (Mexico) and ADEPA (Argentina). Membership now exceeds 80 organizations in more than 20 countries, up from founding members BBC, Financial Times, Guardian Media Group, AP and Sky News. SPUR says it has launched working groups on the Content Telemetry Standard, but has not named any AI company that has agreed to report usage through it.

Why it matters: SPUR's roster more than doubled in membership terms since its founding, but the Content Telemetry standard it exists to enforce still has no AI company committed to using it — growth in members hasn't yet become leverage with the platforms it targets.
