OpenAI's ChatGPT ad team reorganized seven times in a year
OpenAI’s roughly 140-person ChatGPT ad group has been reorganized seven times since its US ad pilot began in February, The Information reported, as carried by TokenPost; about 37% of the team previously worked at Meta, including vice president of global ad solutions Dave Dugan. Ads expanded from more than 40 countries in August to more than 60 by Oct. 15, even as the business tracks toward missing OpenAI’s own internal 2026 revenue projection of $2.4 billion after reaching a $1 billion annualized run rate in late August.
Why it matters: Seven reorgs and heavy Meta hiring in under a year suggest OpenAI is still building ad-sales infrastructure from scratch even as ChatGPT ads scale past 60 countries — a sign the business is maturing more slowly than its revenue headlines suggest.
