Google refiles DMCA claim against scraper SerpApi
Google filed a First Amended Complaint against scraper SerpApi on August 11, adding new allegations to try to revive the DMCA anti-circumvention claim that Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers had mostly dismissed in July, per Chat GPT Is Eating the World. The July ruling gave Google 21 days to replead a narrower claim tied to Knowledge Panel images; the amended complaint is that response.
Why it matters: It's the next round in one of the only active tests of whether the DMCA's anti-circumvention rule can be used to block the scraping that increasingly feeds AI answer engines.
The record: GoogleAI training & copyright litigation
