Search Console's AI Overviews opt-out control rolls out to all sites

Google’s Search Console documentation now says the Search generative AI control — the setting that removes a site from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover’s generative features — has rolled out to all websites worldwide as of August 31, 2026. This wire reported August 27 that the control was live for only “a subset of website owners”; Google’s own support page confirms that limited rollout has now closed.

Search Console’s separate AI performance reports, which show impressions across AI Overviews and AI Mode without click data, have reached the same global availability, per Search Engine Land. Google introduced that reporting in June. Opting out of the AI features carries a stated cost either way: Google’s documentation says a site that excludes itself “won’t receive any traffic or impressions from these features,” though it does not affect ordinary ranking or indexing.
