Gemini 3.8 Flash lands in Google AI Mode

Gemini 3.8 Flash is now rolling out globally in Google Search’s AI Mode, available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers through the model picker, Google’s Robby Stein said, per Search Engine Roundtable. Stein described it as an upgrade over 3.7 Flash for multi-step reasoning and autonomous tasks. The swap arrives less than three weeks after Gemini 3.7 Flash reached AI Mode on August 14, continuing a run of model changes under the surface since July.

Why it matters: AI Mode's underlying model has now changed four times in about six weeks, meaning visibility and citation studies measured against any single version age out fast.
