Comscore: ChatGPT's AI prompt share falls from 70% to 50%

ChatGPT’s share of AI assistant prompt volume fell from 70% in January 2026 to 50% by June, while Gemini nearly doubled from 17% to 30% and Claude climbed from 2% to 11%, per Comscore’s Q2 2026 AI Intelligence Report, cited by Digiday. The report draws on an opt-in panel of 500,000 to 1 million respondents; ChatGPT still led in raw volume, with 168 million desktop conversations in June, but Claude’s desktop conversations dropped from an April peak of 40 million to 22.3 million by June after surging from 1.1 million the previous October. Comscore’s chief analytics officer, Smriti Sharma, said AI assistants collectively are becoming a “consumer behavior layer,” with different audiences favoring different platforms.
