YouTube adds shopping comparison tables to Ask YouTube

YouTube added shopping features to Ask YouTube, the experimental conversational search tool it has been testing on watch pages and in search since earlier this year, per the company’s Sept. 23 “Made on YouTube” announcement. Searching for a specific product review can now surface videos sorted into a comparison table by product attributes; picking one carries the conversation onto that video’s watch page, where viewers can keep asking product questions by text or, on TV, by voice. YouTube’s post names no retail partners, rollout timeline or geography; Search Engine Journal reports the feature is currently limited to some English-language users in the U.S. on phone, computer or TV, with availability “gradually expanding.”

Why it matters: It pushes YouTube's AI search tool further into product research, a day after Google defaulted Merchant Center sellers into AI Mode and Gemini checkout — another piece of shopping moving inside Google's AI answer surfaces rather than out to a merchant's site.
