Adthena: ChatGPT advertisers jump 65% in eight weeks as AI Overview queries shorten

ChatGPT’s weekly advertiser count rose 65% over eight weeks, from 7,306 in the week of July 9 to 12,075 by August 31 (peaking at 13,009 in early August), according to an Adthena analysis reported by PPC Land. Separately, Adthena found that one- and two-word searches now drive more than half of ad appearances inside Google’s AI Overviews in every market measured, reversing a June 2026 pattern in which three- and four-word queries had the majority. Booking.com was the only brand to place among the top five advertisers in three separate markets — the US, EU and Asia — at once.

Why it matters: The two trends point advertisers toward different playbooks at once — building out ChatGPT ad campaigns as the advertiser base swells, while rethinking Google AI Overview bidding around shorter, more generic queries instead of longer ones.
