Bing tests renaming Copilot search tab to AI Mode
Microsoft is testing a label change on Bing Search’s dedicated AI tab, from Copilot to AI Mode — the name Google uses for its own AI search mode — per Search Engine Roundtable, which credits the spot to Sachin Patel on X. It’s a second borrowed name in a month: Bing tested calling its AI answer box AI Overviews in August. Microsoft hasn’t commented, and the article gives no rollout scope or timeline for the test.
Why it matters: Two borrowed Google labels inside a month suggests Bing thinks searchers already recognize Google's AI-feature names better than its own Copilot branding.
