Google AI Mode and Gemini test Flipkart purchases in India

Google is testing a “Buy” button on select Flipkart product listings inside Gemini and AI Mode that routes shoppers straight to Flipkart’s checkout, per TechCrunch — for now limited to smartphones, electronics and mobile accessories, and to select users in India. Amazon listings appear in the same AI results without a purchase button. Google, which took a roughly $350 million stake in Flipkart in 2024 and built the Universal Commerce Protocol checkout standard, plans a broader rollout in October, ahead of India’s festive shopping season; a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch only that the company is “always testing new features and experiences.”
