Google AI Overviews now trigger on most big brand name searches
Testing roughly 100 large brand names, researcher Chris Long found AI Overviews appearing for 93% of them, per Search Engine Roundtable — including Reddit, Salesforce, Amazon, Adobe, Wikipedia, Samsung, Apple and Yahoo. Most of those AI Overviews sit mid-page or lower rather than at the top of results, though Adobe’s appeared at the top. Google shows no AI Overview for searches on its own name or on news publishers’ names. Long ran a similar test roughly two years ago and found AI Overviews far less common on brand searches then, per Search Engine Roundtable.
Why it matters: A brand name is the most commercially loaded query a company owns, and if Google now defaults to summarizing rather than linking there, brand-search traffic — not just informational queries — is inside AI Overviews' reach.
