Google's AI Mode gets link carousels for developing topics
Google has rolled out developing-topic link carousels inside AI Mode, showing article cards with images, headlines, sources and publish dates for trending queries. Search VP Robby Stein confirmed the AI Mode rollout on X on August 25, noting the format already runs in AI Overviews and that Preferred Sources can be highlighted within the carousel, per Search Engine Journal. Google says the carousel won’t appear on every developing-topic search.
Why it matters: AI Mode keeps absorbing the visible, clickable surfaces AI Overviews already has, another step toward parity between Google's two answer experiences.
