Google launches a native Gemini app for Windows
Google released a standalone Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and higher, invoked anywhere with the Alt+Space shortcut without switching away from an active window. The app can answer questions, draft messages, research topics, and generate images with Nano Banana, and it connects to Gmail and Drive for document lookups, per Gemini’s release notes. Google did not specify a regional rollout schedule.
Why it matters: Landing a system-wide keyboard shortcut moves Gemini from a browser tab to an OS-level habit, competing for the same instant-answer queries AI Overviews and AI Mode already capture inside Search.
