Google tests AI Overview format in local knowledge panels
Google is testing an AI Overview label atop local knowledge panels for Google Business Profiles, with a “Show more” button that expands into an AI Mode-style chat interface, per Search Engine Roundtable. The feature was spotted by Ben Fisher on LinkedIn and replicated independently by Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz; Google has not announced it. Schwartz found the AI-written description of his own business cited information from his company site that was already out of date.
Why it matters: If AI Overview treatment extends into local knowledge panels, local business search moves closer to Google's AI Mode conversational format and further from a listing businesses can fully control.
