Search Console flags child-property overrides of its AI opt-out control

Google’s Search generative AI control documentation in Search Console now tells site owners that a top-level domain property will show a notification when one of its child properties overrides the parent’s AI control setting, per Search Engine Roundtable. The control, which removes a site from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover’s generative features, rolled out to all sites globally on August 31; this update adds visibility for owners managing a domain’s subdomains or subfolders as separate properties, where a child’s setting could previously diverge from the parent’s without any flag.

Why it matters: Multi-property sites can now see in Search Console when a subdomain or subfolder has quietly opted back into AI Overviews after the parent domain opted out — previously that divergence had no visible flag.
