GetCited: affiliate sites dominate AI product citations

Berlin-based generative engine optimization agency GetCited found 86% of AI answers to product-comparison questions cited at least one commercially disclosed source, in an analysis of 106,758 citations across ChatGPT, Google AI Overview and Perplexity, per PPC Land. Affiliate disclosures appeared on 21.4% of the English-language citations, and TechRadar, Forbes Advisor and PCMag drew the most citations of any publisher in the dataset. PPC Land notes GetCited itself researches, writes and places comparison articles on those same publishers for clients seeking AI recommendations, and that the September dataset reuses citation data first published in German by DataPulse in May 2026 without disclosing the earlier run.

Why it matters: It's evidence that AI answer engines route product recommendations through commercially-disclosed review publishers rather than brands directly — though the finding comes from a generative-engine-optimization agency that sells placement on those same publishers.
