Microsoft appears to be showing ads inside Bing’s AI Overviews, the Copilot-powered answer box, per Search Engine Roundtable. Khushal Bherwani posted a screenshot on X of a sponsored result inside a Bing AI Overview; Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz says he could not trigger one himself and had not seen ads in Bing’s AI responses before.
Microsoft has not announced the placement. Bing renamed its Copilot Search box to AI Overviews in recent months, after this wire logged the rename test on August 27.
Why it matters: If confirmed, Bing's AI answer box becomes the second major engine, after Google this week, to carry paid placements inside the generated answer, which changes what visibility there is worth.
